Leapfrog Helps Bring Vision Care to SA’s Needy Communities
Posted: 10th October 2011
The Leapfrog Property Group has thrown its weight behind the South African end of an initiative by OneSight – a global foundation – to give the gift of sight to millions of adults and children worldwide who do not have access to basic vision care and eyewear.
“We are partnering with OneSight as a corporate collector of used spectacles and frames for recycling and distribution to deserving individuals in underprivileged communities throughout South Africa,” says Bruce Swain, managing director of the real estate group.
“The project will be locally promoted in each of the close to 50 Leapfrog franchises and offices around the country, which will act as collection points for the frames and spectacles donated.
“The eyewear we collect will be sent quarterly to OneSight, who will then clean and prepare the items for redistribution among the needy in South Africa,” Bruce adds.
Since 1988, OneSight’s outreach, research and education programmes have provided free vision care and eyewear to more than 7-million needy people in countries throughout the world – including South Africa.
“Poor sight affects a child’s ability to learn in school, and deprives adults of independence, mobility and quality of life. By partnering with OneSight, Leapfrog is proud to be contribution to the solution in our own needy communities,” says Bruce
