Sea Point Property - Real Estate - Houses
Sea Point properties in the thirties were where the affluent Capetonian citizens had their holiday and weekend homes, as it was a little seaside resort just out of town. From the fifties on, high-rise apartment blocks were erected. Similar to Hillbrow and Johannesburg, it was regarded to be chic - á la New York - to live in a high building.
Upper Sea Point property, on the slopes of the Signal Hill, is characterised by expensive mansions. Along the sea promenade you find a long row of luxury apartment blocks. In between lies the Main Road with pubs, music clubs, coffee shops and lovely cafés. National retail chains and independent boutique shops provide for all lifestyle requirements.
St. John's Piazza and the Adelphi Shopping Centre also add to the retail mix. The spectacular beachfront promenade is a favourite of Sea Point real estate and is a broad paved seaside contour path that follows the coastline curves with views of the sea and small beaches and stretches from Bantry Bay to Mouille Point. A green lawn separates the beachside path from the sidewalk along the Beach Road. It is also very popular and draws locals and visitors alike particularly in the early morning or late afternoons to watch the sun set right next to the waters of the Atlantic Seaboard.
It is a jogger's mile and many people meet here for their daily walk or to show off their dogs to the passing parade. There are panoramic views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill, and Lion's Head from different angles along the shorefront. There are also a number of children's parks with swings and slides along the way. The beaches in Sea Point are not very good for swimming but are good for discovering rock pools and getting your feet in the sand. The surf is too powerful and the coast too rocky but there is the huge seawater swimming pool.
Beautiful Cape sunsets as well as Cape winter storms and tidal displays can be appreciated from the Pavilion. There are some new statues on the Sea Point promenade, which are part of a public art installation called "Walking the Road".
