The colourful history of Edenvale dates all the way back to 1902 when the area was just a small post-Anglo Boer War settlement named Rietfontein. As one of many settlements to spring out around the Rietfontein Gold Mine, Edenvale was originally populated by Cornish mineworkers who settled in brick-lined wood and iron houses – some of which can still be seen today.
Edenvale’s residential housing is a mixed sort ranging from middle class zones in Eastleigh and Croyden to upper class areas such as Dowerglen and Edenglen.
