A Christmas They Won't Forget

Category Corporate Social Responsibility

Friday, 12 December 2014 was a day that the children of Melkbosstrand and surrounding farms won’t soon forget.  The Melkbosstrand Community Centre together with Leapfrog Properties Melkbosstrand Estate Agents, Petra van Asch and Patricia Lerm blessed them with a Christmas party of note!

Months before the party 200 names of children from the area was handed out to members of the community who took the responsibility to gift the children with a personalized gift.  Leapfrog Estate agents took the responsibility of 50 names and Melkbosstrand Private School took 100 names. The rest came from the community.

On the day the children were transported to Melkbosstrand Private School who generously donated their facility and with the help of volunteers from the community, 100 out of the 200 children were entertained and fed.  The other gifts were handed out to the children at their residences as some were too young to attend.

Leapfrog Properties Melkbosstrand sponsored the juices and with a generous donation from Edge Church we could buy a Wimpy burger for each child and volunteer.

Dogs against Drugs held a demonstration on how the dogs are trained to sniff out drugs during drug busts and after a break with ice cream and water the children were entertained by the Fire brigade and allowed to water the school’s garden with the fire hose.  After an interactive Christmas play, in which some of them played the various roles, Father Christmas arrived on a bright, red Fire engine and gifts were then handed out.  The excitement and the laughter was a joy to behold!

After a burger for lunch and a sweetie pack donated by the Meklbosstrand CPF, the children were transported back home – clutching gifts of joy.
