Simons Town at a glance

Seeking shelter from a storm in 1671, a sailor stumbled upon a charming village nestled between towering cliffs and glittering waters along the False Bay coast, a village which was then to be christened Isselsteijn Bay after a Dutch East India vessel of the same name. Stories of the sheltered coastal town soon drifted back to Simon van der Stel, the Governor of the Cape at the time, prompting him to explore the town and order development on the bay. In honour of the governor, the bay was then renamed Simon Bay, thus setting it on what was to become one of the Cape's most interesting journeys.

With 2 centuries of Naval history behind it and some of the most incredible views of the False Bay coastline, Simon's Town has fast become one of the most sought after holiday and retirement destinations in the Western Cape, and perhaps even South Africa as a whole. Simon's Town's reputation as one of the best holiday destinations and residential areas along the Peninsula can be attributed to its undeniable charm, exquisite architecture and a fascinating naval history dating back to a time of colonial rule and Dutch trade.

Stretching through the town is a mile of road known as the Historic Mile and Jubilee Square which extends from St. George's Street all the way across town to the East Dockyard Gates. It is about one mile of exquisite architecture from yesteryear and maritime landmarks such as the renowned Naval Base.  A walk along this expanse of asphalt and cobblestone captures the enchanting history of this vibrant town, from its accidental discovery in the late-1600's right up to the present day, during which time it has been home to the South African Navy.

With an abundance of exquisitely built homes, beautiful vacant mountainside plots, and an array of fantastic restaurants, dusty antique shops, culturally rich galleries and quaint museums within walking distance, Simon's Town property has proven itself to be a great investment amongst both local and foreign investors.
